สาระสังเขป: Describes the Volunteer's quest for a workable relationship with, and understanding of, the Filipino people. Notes how acceptance of Filipinos as persons, including their resistance to change, was a pre-condition to effecting a change in their values of skills. Reviews distinctive features of the Philippines Peace Corps. Discusses variety of work of the Volunteers and value conflicts as barriers to change. Defines the seven stages of coping, describes the process of acceptance, and presents case studies on the relationship of acceptance, friendship, and change. Relates acceptance to speaking the dialect, to living arrangements, sex, religion, race, skills, and task goals. Contrasts effectiveness of Volunteers to Filipinos and to American technical assistants.
